America's Cup 2017: Who’s The Favourite?
The all time favourite so far has been the Oracle Team USA, the current holder of America’s Cup. But the experts observing the races and teams’ performance over the last few years were not so sure about that.
Technology has dramatically evolved since the last America’s Cup and the boats are no longer just a mean of transport. They are more like beasts that can fly above the water and all teams have equally advanced boats. Sailors are left with their traditional technique, maneuvering skills and speed.
Each of the six competing teams has a leader and the expectations are much upon him to bring the team to the winning Auld Mug.
During qualifiers, Groupama Team France, has already been eliminated and couldn’t face the challenge from New Zealand. That leaves only four teams competing against each other for the Louis Vuitton Cup.
Ben Ainslie’s BAR Land Rover has lost with New Zealand due to a broken wing and had to eventually retire from the race. It won’t be easy for the UK’s team to win against New Zealand and they’ve already been set off by 2 points.
Kiwis are looking very strong after a win against SoftTeam Bank Japan, putting them at the top of the America's Cup leaderboard with 8 points. One more than Oracle Team USA, who surprisingly lost against Artemis Racing.
Both SoftBank Team Japan and Artemis Racing have 1pt each and they will be competing against each other in coming days.
The biggest competition will most likely be happening between the Emirates New Zealand Team and Ben Ainslie’s BAR Land Rover. It's going to be a cutting edge race, showcasing the leaders’ ambitions to win and their leadership skills.
